Use this command to perform an isotropic re-mesh your model using a Uniform or Adaptive method. Additional parameters are available from the Browser. The Uniform method performs a re-mesh based on a uniform Edge Length. The Adaptive method performs a re-mesh only in areas where the number of encountered errors exceed a given threshold. You can also re-mesh only a selected number of facets using the Facet Selection Toolbar provided. Auto Fix is performed automatically after this command.

This command will change the shape of your mesh model!: Experimentation with the methods and options listed below is advised until you understand and are satisfied with your results.

Self-Intersecting Meshes: If the mesh has self intersections this could result in holes when Re-Mesh is performed. Use Auto Fix to remove any self intersections before using Re-Mesh.

Basic Procedure

	Screen Pick	Command Input
Step 1	Select the mesh(es) you want to re-mesh and then press Enter or Right-click. You can select from the graphics window or from the VisualCAM Browser.	You can select a mesh first and then select the command icon.
Step 2	From the command dialog, select the Uniform or Adaptive method.	Optional parameters are also available. Refer to the Re-meshing Options section below.
Step 3	When ready, pick the Re-mesh button to execute the command.	You can use the Facet Selection Toolbar to select a sub-set of facet/vertices to modify. You can change options and pick Re-mesh again while the command dialog is displayed.

The following options and reference information is available. The parameters values shown here were used in the Re-Mesh Example below.

Facet Selection Toolbar

Choose one of the following selection options from the Command Dialog to define the facet/vertices on the selected mesh that you wish to modify.

Single triangle selection

The facets three vertices are selected.

View lasso selection

All vertices within the polygon are selected for manipulation.

1.Left-click to pick start and end points for the polygon and then double-left-click to complete the polygon. Then left-click within the polygon to select the vertices contained within.

Surface lasso selection

All vertices within the polygon are selected for manipulation. Left-click to drag/pick the corners of the polygon. As the lasso surface area is widened, vertices within the lasso area are selected for manipulation.

Planar face selection

All vertices lying on the surface are selected for manipulation. Select the planar surface and its vertices are selected.

Paint selection

All vertices lying within the painted area are selected for manipulation. Drag the cursor over the mesh painting an area and selecting vertices.

Other Options

You can enter a selection radius in the field provided. It will affect how many vertices are selected using each method listed above.

Choose this icon to clear the current selection.

Remeshing Parameters

•Uniform
This method performs a uniform re-mesh across the entire model. With this option selected, the Edge Length parameter is active. No error checking is performed.

•Adaptive
This method only refines the mesh model in areas containing a high number of errors. Specify the target Edge Length and the Error threshold below.

•Edge Length
Specify target edge length for re-meshing. This is used for both he Uniform and Adaptive methods listed above.

•Error
For the Adaptive method, enter the error threshold value. Only areas of the mesh model exceeding this number of errors will be re-meshed.

•Iterations Count
This is number of times the model will be re-meshed. Second iteration will re-mesh the mesh which was received after first iteration and so on.

•Keep Sharp Edges
If your mesh model contains sharp features, such as corners or protrusions that you wish to retain, check this box. If left unchecked, all sharp corners will be re-meshed.

•Remesh
Select this button to begin the Uniform Re-meshing procedure.

Re-meshing Tips!

Re-meshing Tips: If your mesh contains self-intersections, this could result in gaps in the mesh when the Re-Mesh command is performed. It is always a good practice to use Auto Fix to clean-up the mesh, fixing any self-intersections before re-meshing.

Stitch & Close can fix "cracks" along mating facets and close open meshes. Auto Fix can do the same and more including fixing any incorrectly oriented facets. Reduce, Re-mesh and Smooth can fix a variety of irregularities. Diagnose can check and fix edges, triangles and vertices. Check can verify that your mesh model is positioned correctly for your selected 3D printer.
