4 Axis Tapping Operations

Tapping, 4 Axis

This method is used to make threaded holes. The 4 axis Tap operation is invoked by selecting the Program tab, clicking on the Holes button in the Machining Browser and selecting the 4 Axis Tap operation.

The toolpath generated depends on your defined parameters. The various parameters that you can set can be seen in the dialog box that is invoked when you choose the Tap operation. This dialog box is shown below.

The tap cycles supported are:

tap-std-cut-parameters

Standard Tap
This is a standard tap cycle.  Move to XY, Move to Z at approach distance, tap to depth, retract to clearance.

tap-peck

Peck Tapping  
This is a peck tap cycle.  Move to XY, Move to Z at approach distance, tap to peck depth, retract to top of peck, tap to peck depth, repeat to until full tap depth, retract clearance.

User Defined Tap1, 2, 3, 4  
This is a tap cycle that you can define using the User Defined Cycles in the Post-Processor Generator.
