There are two major classes of machining operations that can be created in the VisualCAM MILL module - milling and drilling. Milling operations are used to remove material by milling to create shapes. Drilling operations are used to create holes. Both classes are essential in any manufacturing industry. Milling operations can be categorized as 2½ Axis, 3 Axis, 4 Axis, and indexed 5 Axis milling.
½ Axis: The tool can move in X and Y directions, while the Z level is fixed at set locations.
Axis: The tool can move simultaneously in all three directions.
Axis: The tool stays normal to the rotary axis and the part rotates about X (A) axis or Y (B) axis.
Axis: Index and Simultaneous. Index 5 Axis machining, also known as 3+2 machining. 2 of the tool axis are oriented at a certain angle and use a combination 2½ and 3 Axis machining. Simultaneous 5 Axis machining, the tool stays normal to surface(s) moving in each axis simultaneously.
